Say "please" with your butt - before feeding
This activity could be called "a lift". A bowl of food is an excellent thing that can motivate good behavior. I will teach your dog to sit and wait before eating without giving commands. The only word you say is "OK" to release the dog from sitting.
All communication takes place only through your body. When the dog sits, the elevator slowly moves the food down towards him. But when the dog tries to get up, then the lift goes up and stays there until the dog sits down again. Let's go through it step by step.
1. Stand in front of the dog with a bowl of food in your hand.
2. Wait until he sits down on his own. Don't say anything. Do not move so as not to inadvertently give the dog an additional signal. If the dog stands up, jumps up, barks or tries to get to the bowl, ignore it and do not move.
3. When he sits down, slowly move the bowl down towards him like an elevator, but keep it a little further away from him.
4. If he gets up during the "elevator" downwards, starts barking or jumps up, go back up with the bowl but don't say anything to him. The dog will find out for himself that his behavior had its consequences. When the dog sits down again, move the bowl down again. In the beginning, you will probably have to do this "lift" up and down several times. It is a normal part of learning.
5. When you put the bowl on the ground and the dog is sitting, say "OK" - this will release the dog and allow him to eat the food from the bowl.
It might take a few training sessions, but it will definitely work in the end. Food is a really great motivation. When the dog has mastered this sequence, you can stretch the time when you say OK and release him to eat. My human already does it by walking away from the bowl, I am still sitting and only later I hear "Ok" and I start to eat from the bowl.
You can apply this "elevator" technique in other situations as well.
Let me know how it goes, I'm curious :-)
